The Awakening by Kelley Armstrong

Rating: 3 1/2 stars

Series: Darkest Powers #2

The Awakening picks up right where The Summoning left off. Chloe was trying to find a way to escape and get back to Derek and Simon. Unfortunately the only way for her to find them is with the help of someone who detests her.

The setting was completely different, but it was still just as good as the first book. Character development was a big part of the story especially in regards to Tori and Derek. Although Tori did grow as a character, she was still despicable at times. Derek slowly began to showing a gentler side, which strengthened his friendship with Chloe.

The plot was okay. Not a lot was going on other than trying to escape from the Edison Group and trying to find an old friend of Derek and Simon’s father who might be able to help them. There was a fair amount of action on their journey, so it wasn’t dull. Once again one of the main detractors was love triangle. It was obvious as the reader who Chloe had feelings for yet she seemed to think she had feelings for the other guy. Still as far a love triangles go this is one of the better ones.
